Thousands of Amazon listings say "silk" but are polyester satin, and claims about "momme" and "grade 6A" are hard for shoppers to check. This site explains what those claims mean and ranks the masks worth considering.
Who we are
Silk Sleep Masks is a small, independent review site. We're not sleep doctors or textile scientists. We research silk sleep masks carefully, compare them on the things that affect your sleep and your money, and explain the trade-offs in plain English.
Why a whole site about sleep masks?
Because the category is genuinely confusing and the misinformation is pervasive. "Silk" on Amazon can mean anything from genuine 22-momme mulberry silk to polyester satin with a shiny finish. "6A grade" is a marketing term with no regulatory standard. And the difference between a flat mask and a contoured one matters enormously if you have lash extensions or wear eye cream. We built Silk Sleep Masks to explain that in plain English and give you a clear, honest ranking you can act on.
How we review today
Our reviews and rankings are based on research, not hands-on use. For each mask we look at:
- Material authenticity — is it genuine mulberry silk, and at what momme and grade?
- Light blocking — how the design handles light: flat or contoured, filled or unfilled.
- Comfort & fit — weight, strap design, and whether it suits side sleepers.
- Durability & care — materials and the manufacturer's care instructions.
- Value — quality relative to price, because the most expensive mask isn't always the best.
We work from each product's published specifications, Amazon catalog data such as bestseller rank, and the brand's own claims, which we check against what the specifications can support. Scores are our editorial opinion and labelled as such. We don't publish prices, because they change daily; the live price is always on Amazon.
What's next: hands-on testing
Research only goes so far with something you wear on your face all night. Our next step is to test the masks in our rankings ourselves: how much light gets through, weight, strap fit, and how they hold up to washing. When a review includes our own test results and photos, it will say so clearly. Until then, it is research-based.
